SMBW Rings in the New Year By Promoting Michelle Mikita, CID to Principal of Interior Design

Richmond-based design firm, SMBW, is starting the new year looking to the future of the firm and celebrating exciting news – the promotion of Michelle Mikita to Principal of Interior Design. This promotion marks the close off a year to be celebrated, and with her promotion, SMBW is empowering a new generation of leadership.

“For 15 years I have worked alongside Michelle. She is a natural leader and a diligent advocate for our client’s vision. I am excited to have her join the principal group,” responded Architectural Principal Spencer Grice.

In 2011, Michelle was the second Interior Designer to join the SMBW team and has been a leader in the firm’s design practice ever since. Michelle has been instrumental in developing the Interiors team’s talent and establishing firm-wide mentorship, project management, and design methodologies. Her proven leadership skills, dedication to client success, talent mentorship, and reputation will mean the continued success of our design practice and brand as design and thought leaders. Michelle has led a broad range of projects for a variety of clients and market sectors, including Capital One, S&P Global, CapCenter, University of Richmond and Virginia Humanities. Recognized for her leadership and accomplishments, known for her design prowess, please join SMBW in congratulating the newest leader of the firm.

“As a Principal, I am inspired to provide the opportunity, guidance, and space for our designers to explore and challenge how design can support meaningful change. Through thoughtful conversations and deliberate action, I hope to empower the team to do their best work yet,” said Michelle.

Michelle Mikita received her BFA in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007. A Virginia Certified Interior Designer, Michelle is also NCIDQ® and LEEP AP ID+C certified. She is a professional member of IIDA and was President of the IIDA’s VA/WV Chapter in 2015 and a Board Member from 2009 to 2016.

Her promotion was made effective January 1st.
