Blue Sky Fund is a local non-profit that provides transformational experiences for Richmond area youth through outdoor education. Since 2007, Blue Sky Fund has provided over 40,000 hours of outdoor programming for 2,000 Richmond youth; 78% of whom come from under-resourced communities and a majority identify as youth of color.
As a Programs Director at Blue Sky Fund, Josh Bearman serves as a liason between schools and oversees the organization’s Elementary, Middle, and High School programs. Through hiking, canoeing, biking, climbing, and swimming, these programs address the psychological, socioeconomic, and racial barriers that can often prevent people from accessing urban greenspace. With a background in science education, Josh sees greenspace access and a comfortability outdoors as an important first step towards environmental stewardship.
